Why are you running for school board?
Find out what's happening in Moorestownfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
I have always been passionate about educating young people as well as serving the community that I live in. I have done both of those on many levels during my time as a Moorestown resident, and throughout my life. With my background in education and my experience and understanding of how different school systems and environments function and succeed, I will bring an essential perspective to the board. I wholeheartedly believe that the fundamental task of a school system is to ensure that each and every student has the necessary resources to allow them the highest probability of success in their school career. The board’s responsibility is to ensure that the proper tools are in place to make that happen and, if elected, I plan to work toward this vision.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
As a former special education teacher, I have a unique perspective and understanding of how schools function and what it requires to effectively educate a diverse student body. I am data driven and believe in research-based practices. I will look at student success data and ask the difficult questions as to why different groups of students are succeeding at different levels and then help to provide the resources to ensure greater success for all of our students.
Along with my background as an educator, I have also been very involved in our school district for the last 13 years as a Home & School volunteer. I have held leadership roles at the district level, chaired major fundraising events, and I have started programs at our schools that benefit both the students as well as the community.
What past accomplishments or experiences make you qualified for this position?
In addition to my experience as an educator, my dedication to serving the community in many different capacities makes me qualified to be a Board of Education member. I have been a youth sports coach for over a decade in Moorestown. I am currently a board member of Moorestown Soccer Club and have served in that role since 2019. I have dedicated a lot of time and resources to combating food insecurity, both in Moorestown as well as Camden. I am incredibly proud of the effort to get a food pantry at a youth organization in Camden up and running, which serves both the youth and their families at the organization, as well as the greater Camden community. Recently, I was appointed to serve on the newly-formed Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Traffic Safety Committee in town. All of these demonstrate my dedication to kids, families, and serving the community.
If elected, what will be your top priorities during your elected term?
My priorities will be collaboration, transparency, and creating a truly equitable school district that supports the education of all of our students. For collaboration, we need board members who want to work with others in a positive way to do what is best for our students. For transparency, we need a board that is willing to show the public what it is that we are working on and why. As for equity, we need to ensure that all of our students have the opportunity for success and that all of our students feel safe and seen. As far as how to help move the district forward, if I am fortunate to be elected to serve on this board, I look forward to supporting the development of a new strategic plan for the district. A strategic plan is necessary in order to guide the district as a whole toward common goals.
