MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) Artistic Director Mark Morgan recently spoke with a woman who said performing on stage with her daughter was one of her “bucket list” items.

She will get that chance when they audition for MTC’s “Elf the Musical.” Parents, or really anyone, who has performing in a live community theater show will have two chances to scratch that off their bucket list, as MTC is also holding auditions for the upcoming “All Together Now” fundraiser show.

“It’s never too late,” Morgan said. “Performing in community theater is something anyone can do without training, and it’s fun, especially if you do it with your child.”

“Elf the Musical” is a show for ages 6-and-up. It tells the story of Buddy the Elf, who comes from the North Pole hoping to have a relationship with his real dad. The show will run Dec. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12.

Those auditioning are asked to do so using a song from this show as listed on the MTC website.

The following are the remaining audition dates:

  • Oct. 10: 4 p.m.to 6 p.m.
  • Oct. 11: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Pre-teens can only audition for "Elf" until 8:30 p.m. They do not need to have an adult relative in the show, but MTC is encouraging it.

“All Together Now” is a show for ages 10-and-up. It is a global event celebrating musical theater as much of the theater world reopens following the shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The revue features 15 slots for musical performances with multiple song options per slot, so theatres have flexibility with how they present the show,” Music Theater International (MTI) says on its website. “The option to choose from two or three fantastic songs for each slot allows producers to tailor the show to best fit their artistic/creative vision, the talents of their cast, and the composition of their audience.”

MTI opened up its catalog of songs, which is the largest in the musical theater world, to theaters across the world to perform. There are some restrictions as to what can be performed in what slot, but as of Friday, more than 2,400 theaters across the world had registered to participate in this event, which runs Nov. 12-15.

Those auditioning for the show in Moorestown can audition using any song on MTC’s website.
The remaining audition dates are as follows:

  • Oct. 10: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Oct. 12: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Pre-teens can only audition until 9 p.m.

Anyone who wants to audition for a 'Lead' role in either show, should register for the show and then sign up for a Vocal Audition time slot. Otherwise, just register for the show. MTC says it never cuts anyone, so if you register for either show, you will be in that show.

You should be ready to sing the song for the character you most want to play. These songs are posted on the MTC Website.

Anyone who wants to be considered for a “featured dancer” for Elf The Musical should come to the one remaining Dance Audition at 8 p.m. on Monday, ready to dance and/or tap.

An audition form, with photo, is required and should be brought with you to your audition, for either show. You can download the Audition Form from the MTC Website.
