Philly Sports Drama In Moorestown Through The Years: The Most Memorable Moments

The egging of an Eagles coach's house is just the latest example of Philly sports messiness hitting the quiet suburb.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Plenty of Philadelphia sports figures have called Moorestown home over the years. And sometimes, the Philly sports drama follows them.

The egging of Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo's house is just the latest example. Whether it's a disgruntled star receiver doing sit-ups in his driveway or a new real estate listing opening trade rumors, the idyllic township has been home to some not-so-idyllic Philly sports stories.

T.O.'s Driveway Sit-Ups

In a matter of months, Eagles wideout Terrell Owens went from Super Bowl hero to banishment from training camp. So he brought the spectacle to his Moorestown home.

Owens entered the 2005 season wanting to redo his contract, but the Eagles weren't budging. The months-long offseason controversy resulted in then-coach Andy Reid throwing him out of training camp.

The media swarm followed T.O. to Moorestown, where he answered questions while doing shirtless sit-ups in his driveway.

Happy 20-year anniversary of the infamous spectacle to those who celebrate:

Ben Simmons Lists Mansion For Sale

Then-Sixers point guard Ben Simmons purchased a Moorestown mansion in 2019. But the former No. 1 wasn't long for the Philly suburb, as his relationship with the team went south over the next two years.

In 2021, Simmons listed his house for sale with a $5 million asking price. The listing was viewed as another sign that his days with the Sixers were numbered.

Simmons refused to play for much of the next season and was traded to the Brooklyn Nets that year.

For what it's worth, Simmons sold the home to Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos for $4.55 million.

Nick Sirianni's Real Estate Dispute

It's not exactly a sports story, but it's nice when your newly hired NFL head coach can sort out his living situation.

Shortly after the Eagles hired him in 2021, Nick Sirianni and his wife, Brett, entered a contract to purchase a $2.3 million home in Moorestown. But the seller failed to disclose the deed's right of first refusal (ROFR), which allowed a prior owner's children to match offers on the property, until after the contract was signed, according to court documents in the ensuing legal battle.

The provision raised potential challenges for the Siriannis if they decided to sell the property later. So they backed out of the sale before closing.

Years of litigation ensued. In early 2023, a motion judge determined that the Siriannis didn't violate the contract by backing out for that reason — a decision upheld on appeal in May 2024.
