Police Arrest Would-Be Burglar Caught in Act

Also, Mount Laurel Police arrest a teenager who posted "intimate" photos of a female friend online.

July 14

Theft — Someone stole an iPod and a credit card from a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Burnamwood Drive sometime between 7 p.m. July 13 and 8 a.m. July 14, according to police. The credit card was later fraudulently used at an unknown location.

Arrest (theft/drug possession), 2:13 p.m. — Police arrested Michael E. Conway, 21, of the 4000 block of Myrtle Ave, Pennsauken, during a theft investigation on the 200 block of Amberfield Drive. Police said Conway stole $1,000 worth of jewelry from a resident there and was also found in possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription narcotics. He was charged with theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released pending a court hearing after posting 10 percent of $7,500 bail, according to police.

July 15

Criminal mischief — Police said someone spray-painted graffiti on a shed belonging to the Birchfield Firehouse on Elbo Lane, causing an estimated $250 damage. The incident occurred between 6 p.m. July 14 and 6 a.m. July 15.

Arrest (drug possession), 12:05 a.m. — Police arrested Ruslan Prota, 23, of the 400 block of Liberty Lane, Marlton, after he was found sleeping in a vehicle on Mountainview Road, according to a report. Prota was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. He was released pending a court hearing.  

Arrest (hindering), 12:30 a.m. — Police arrested Mitye A. Cook, 20, of the first block of Hilton Avenue, Maplewood, after he provided officers with a false identity after being stopped on Route 73, according to a report. He was charged with hindering his own apprehension and released pending a court hearing.

Arrest (hindering), 12:44 a.m. — Police arrested Jamil A. Davis, 20, of the 200 block of West Branch Avenue, Pine Hill after he was stopped on Sternlight Drive. Police said Davis hindered his own apprehension by providing a false identity to officers at the scene. He was released pending a court hearing.  

Arrest (DWI), 2:50 a.m. — Police arrested Luis Anthony Rivera, 32, of the 800 block of Henri Court, Burlington, after he was stopped on Mount Laurel Road for a motor vehicle violation, according to a report. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released pending a court hearing.

July 16

Criminal mischief — Someone spray-painted the phrase “Everybody wants to be a snowflake” and the initials “SPQR” and “ALDO” on two vehicles in the Birchfield development and a building on Elbo Lane belonging to the Mount Laurel Municipal Utilities Authority sometime between July 14 and 16, according to a report. Police said there have been several similar incidents in the past few months and ask anyone with information to contact the Mount Laurel Police Detective Bureau at 856-234-1414, ext. 1526.

Fraud — An employee at the Best Buy on Nixon Drive told police a man opened a line of credit and then tried to use the credit to purchase $4,000 worth of electronics. Employees became suspicious about the man’s identity and questioned him further, at which point he fled the store, leaving the electronics behind, police said. He is described as having a light brown complexion, thin build, 40 to 50 years old, with a small patch of grey hair beneath his lower lip. The suspect is pictured above. Arrest (obstruction/hindering), 1:10 a.m. — Police arrested Sybria D. Smith, 27, of the 1900 block of Church Lane, Philadelphia, and Sherron A. Smith, 28, of the 1300 block of Sheridan Street, Camden, during an investigation into a noise complaint at the Staybridge Suites hotel on Church Road. Police said Sybria Smith tried to flee from an officer who was arresting her on an outstanding warrant and she was charged with obstruction. Sherron Smith was charged with hindering his own apprehension after he gave officers a false identity to avoid arrest on a warrant, police said. Both posted bail and were released pending a court hearing.

Arrest (invasion of privacy), 4 p.m. — Police arrested Matthew McLaughlin, 19, of the unit block of Southgate Drive, Mount Laurel, after an investigation revealed he posted intimate photos of a female acquaintance online, according to a report. He was charged with invasion of privacy and released pending a court hearing.

July 17

Burglary (Timbercrest) — Someone entered a garage on Foxwood Drive, after the homeowner mistakenly left it open, and stole a radio, cell phone and various CDs, all valued at approximately $2,000, according to police. The theft occurred sometime between July 16 and 17.

Theft (Timbercrest) — Police said someone cut the rear plastic window of a Jeep parked on the 300 block of Candlewood Lane and stole several items of an undetermined value from inside. The theft occurred sometime between July 16 and 17.

Theft (Devonshire) — A thief entered two unlocked vehicles parked in a driveway on the first block of Dickens Lane and stole a $200 GPS from one, police said. The theft occurred sometime between July 16 and 17.

Theft — Police said two steel gates, valued at $350, were stolen from township property on Gaskill Road sometime between July 16 and 17.

July 18

Arrest (attempted burglary/criminal mischief), 1 p.m. — Police arrested Myles A. Russick, 26, of Sylvan Court, Delran after responding to the 200 block of Burnamwood Drive for a report of a suspicious male jumping over a fence into a backyard, according to a report. Police found Russick in the rear yard of a residence. According to police, there was evidence he tried to enter the residence through a rear window. Russick was charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $7,500 and he was committed to Burlington County Jail.
