Project Graduation Lawn Signs Swiped
Several signs, put on display by proud Moorestown parents, were stolen from front lawns last week.

Mere hours after they were handed out, someone stole about a dozen signs congratulating graduates.
The personalized graduation lawn signs have been sold to proud Moorestown parents for years as a fundraiser for Project Graduation, according to organizer Mara Jacobs. The Moorestown Education Foundation sold about 140 this year—a little less than half the graduating class—for $25 apiece.
The signs were distributed Wednesday, and by Thursday morning several households reported their signs had been stolen, Jacobs said.
“It’s a way for the parents to show pride for their kids … So it’s a little bit of a downer,” she said. “The kids are upset. That’s their sign. That’s their moment.”
As a result, Jacobs said some parents are electing not to put their signs out or bringing them in at night, “which is sad … It’s not just because it’s a crime. It’s also like a little bit of a violation.”
Councilwoman Stacey Jordan and her daughter Sarah were among those who had their signs swiped. Jordan figures it’s probably just kids playing a prank, but said it’s “a little disheartening.”
“(Sarah) was bummed out,” said the councilwoman. “It kind of puts a damper on the graduation celebration.”
Sgt. Lee Lieber said the department had only received a couple reports of stolen signs. To report a stolen sign, call police at 856-234-8300.
At this point it wouldn’t be feasible to replace the signs, Jacobs said, because it would start to eat into the money they’ve raised for Project Graduation.
The foundation has already hit its goal of $60,000 for the through , donations and business sponsorships.
“(Project Graduation) is a culmination of not only our kids’ time here and their successes, but it’s also proof of the effort this community can put together,” said Jacobs, who lauded all the individuals and businesses who donated and the work of the senior parents who assisted her, including Alisa Wallace, Christie Perham and Judith Carpenter.
Jacobs said the last of the fine dining raffle tickets are being sold this week. This is also the final week for students to register for Project Graduation. Students can register at the main office at the high school. The cost is $10.
