Tornado Warning Issued For Northern Iredell County

A tornado warning was issued in northern Iredell County Tuesday after a confirmed tornado was spotted near Stony Point, NWS said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A tornado warning was issued for northern Iredell County midday Tuesday after at least two confirmed tornadoes were spotted on the ground, the National Weather Service said.

The tornado warning is to expire at 1 p.m., NWS said.

A tornado was confirmed at 11:36 a.m. about 7 mile seats of Taylorsville and was moving at about 35 mph, NWS said.

At 12:41 p.m., another tornado was confirmed about 13 miles southwest of Yadkinville, or about 5 miles northwest of Harmony. It was moving at about 20 mph, NWS said.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter," NWS said. "Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

NWS urged anyone in the tornado warning area to:

  • Take cover immediately
  • Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
  • Avoid windows.
  • If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
  • Heavy rainfall may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado.
