Hydrant Flushing To Begin This Week In Morris Township

The Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority will begin its hydrant inspection and flushing program on April 17.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA) field technicians will be inspecting and flushing fire hydrants throughout its service area, including Morris Township.

The work is scheduled to be completed on business days between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., beginning on April 17 and ending on April 21.

SMCMUA takes advantage of this opportunity to inspect and repair hydrants, which may necessitate flushing for a period of time in order to test functionality.

This program is critical for water system maintenance because it involves water officials systematically opening fire hydrants to increase water flows, allowing them to flush any minerals and deposits from the water mains.

Residents may experience temporary low pressure or discoloration during the flushing period. Run cold tap water until it clears to rid the discoloration.
