Morris Plains Police Investigating Attempted Car Thefts

MPPD said in a Facebook post​ that these attempts happened on Greenwood, Wyndwood and Lealand roads between 1-5 a.m. on Wednesday.

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J.– The Morris Plains Police Department is investigating attempted car burglaries throughout the borough.

MPPD said in a Facebook post that these attempts happened on Greenwood, Wyndwood and Lealand roads between 1-5 a.m. on Wednesday.

The attempts were made on unlocked vehicles, according to police.

Police offered these tips:

  • Please lock your vehicle;
  • Do not leave valuable items inside your motor vehicle;
  • Never leave a window open;
  • Never leave your vehicle running;
  • Never leave your keys in your vehicle;
  • Always use your emergency brake;
  • Park your vehicle in a well-lighted area;
  • Try to park your vehicle in attended lots;
  • When parking your vehicle in an attended lot, always use your valet key;
  • Never leave the title or registration in your vehicle when it is unattended;
  • Disable your vehicle when leaving for extended periods of time, i.e., disconnect the battery;
  • Use locking screws on your license plate.
