"Growing up in Manahan Village in Morristown, Victor witnessed the effects of crime on the community and was inspired to protect and serve. He is the son of two immigrants; Victor knew he wanted to be the voice of the Hispanic community as a police officer," Richardson said.

Salazar also joined the police department after officially graduating from the training academy's 100th basic police class earlier this fall.

The third officer to be sworn in last week was Officer Joseph Winter, who was hired by the Morristown Police Department in August. According to Richardson, Winters previously worked for the Somerset County Sheriff's Office as a corrections officer.

The Morristown Bureau of Police, led by Richardson, maintains an active uniformed patrol, investigative capacity and administrative function for all emergency calls for service based on these numbers. These figures are bolstered by civilian personnel as well as special police officers, officials said.

"We are very proud of these officers and the positive impact they are already making to keep Morristown safe. Best wishes for a long and safe career serving our great community," Richardson and Director of Public Safety Michael Corcoran said in a joint statement.
