UPDATE: Authorities Seeking Vehicle That Struck Bicyclist in Morris County Friday

Witnesses say man was struck by dump truck, according to report.

A man riding his bicycle home from work Friday morning was struck by a motor vehicle in Rockaway Township and police are asking for the public’s help.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp released a statement just before noon Friday after Rockaway Township police were dispatched to an incident on Green Pond Road around 6 a.m. Police found a man lying on the ground with injuries after he had been hit by a vehicle, Knapp said. The man was riding a bicycle at the time.

Earlier in the day nj.com cited Rockaway Township’s mayor as saying the bicyclist was killed in the incident. That has not been confirmed by the prosecutor’s office.

The automobile in question is a commercial vehicle and there is no threat to the community.
