Driver Rams Into Police Cars Before Fleeing In Morris County: Police

According to authorities, the suspect got out of their car, got into a waiting car, and headed east on Interstate 78.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Police are searching for a driver accused of ramming into multiple New Jersey State Police unmarked vehicles on Monday morning.

According to New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair, plain clothes detectives wearing State Police-marked vests attempted to detain a person wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation at approximately 9:15 a.m. at a parking garage in Whippany Township.

When authorities approached the suspect, they fled the area by ramming several unmarked New Jersey State Police vehicles.

Troopers said that they tried a traffic stop using lights and sirens, but the suspect proceeded to avoid capture.

Initially, the suspect escaped to Route 24, where marked State Police patrol units attempted to pull over the suspect's Jeep. The vehicle traveled east on Route 24 to Interstate 78 east, where it exited at the Garden State Parkway entrance ramp.

According to McNair, the suspect abandoned the vehicle at the toll plaza, entered a waiting vehicle, and drove east on Interstate 78.

The police were unable to offer the suspect's identification or reveal what they were wanted for.

"This is an active investigation and there is no additional information available," McNair said.
