Election Day 2016: Heavy Republican Morris Picks Trump, But Not Overwhelmingly
Donald Trump won the presidency, but Hillary Clinton won New Jersey. How did Morris County vote? You may be surprised.
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J.– President elect Donald Trump was the favorite in heavily Republican Morris County, where GOP candidates for congress, freeholder and sheriff were elected to office.
But his margin of victory – 4.34 percent – was much less than the aforementioned local officials.
Trump and running mate Michael Pence garnered 125,376 votes (49.76 percent) while the Democratic ticket of Hillary Clinton and Timothy Kane – who won N.J. – racked up 114,437 (45.42 percent).

The unofficial results reported by Morris County Clerk Ann Grassi show a 72.51 percent voter turnout and 251,955 ballots cast for president.
Libertarian Gary Johnson was third with 5,903 votes.

While only 1.23 percent, write-in candidates received 3,107 votes.
The county races were not nearly as close, as incumbent Republican Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, newly elected GOP Sheriff James M. Gannon locked up their positions by a sizeable margin.
Things were slightly closer in the freeholder race, but a trend continued.
Morris voters haven't elected a Democrat to county office in three decades and incumbent Republicans Doug Cabana, Tom Mastrangelo and Kathy DeFillippo picked up the sweep.
