Get Rid Of Unneeded Prescriptions At Drug Take Back Day In Morris Plains

Medications that are no longer needed can be disposed of safely at the collection event, which aims to keep pills off the streets.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Do you have prescription medication sitting in your cabinet that you no longer need?

You can dispose of it safely on Oct. 28 at the Take Back Day prescription medication collection event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stop and Shop Supermarket, located at 245 Littleton Rd./US 202, Morris Plains.

The DEA and the US Department of Justice coordinate Operation Take Back twice a year. Throughout the country, on Take Back Days, law enforcement at the state, county and local levels operate prescription drug drop-off locations.

Participants can dispose of their medication in its original container or place it directly in the disposal box. No identification is necessary; prescription labels should be removed from the containers.

Cough syrup and other liquid products should also be stored in their original containers, with the depositor ensuring that the top is well shut to prevent leakage.

Because of the potential risk posed by blood-borne diseases, intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be allowed. Illegal substances, such as marijuana or methamphetamine, are not included in this campaign and should not be placed in collection bins, police said.

“Operation Take Back is a program proven to be an effective method of removing unused and unwanted medications from circulation, where it could potentially be misused. We applaud our citizens for their proactive steps in helping to curb the abuse of prescription medications,” Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said.
