Local Groups Raise $37K for Morristown Relay for Life

Out of 23 teams and 124 participants, Relay for Life Morristown was a success this past Saturday raising $37,047.76.

Also contributing was Morris Township PBA Local 133, "a union comprised of police officers that are constantly protecting and giving back to our community," said Heather Jones, president of Morris Twp PBA 133 in this Patch blog.  

Local 133 raised $1,520, beating their goal of $1,000. Relay for Life started at Spring Street and Morris Street behind the Morristown Diner.

All the money they raise was donated to The American Cancer Society on behalf of Hugh Sutherland, who recently passed and was the father of one of Local 133's detectives.

"We had a total of 19 people walking for our team. One group within ours walked a total of 13 miles," said Jones. "It was an incredible event and we cannot wait to participate again next year."

Ptl. Jones, Lt. Ed Conrads and Sgt. Sean O'Hare shared their reasons with Patch on why they participated and gave back to the cause:
