Man Loses Leg After Being Shot In Morris County Hotel
The victim, a father of six, was also robbed, according to a fundraiser website.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The family of a Morris County man who lost his leg following a shooting in a Roxbury motel has started a fundraiser to help cover his medical costs.
On Oct. 19, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced that authorities were searching for a gunman accused of shooting a man while at the Roxbury Motel the previous night.
At the time, police said that they arrived at the motel at approximately 8:54 p.m. on Oct. 18 and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg, but that the gunman fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

According to Xavier Martinez, his brother Selwyn, a 36-year-old father of six, was the victim of the robbery at the motel room in Roxbury.
"This crime was committed by two individuals using a high-powered assault rifle. During the robbery, my brother consented and gave these assailants all they wanted but was still put in a position where he feared for his life. Believing he was about to be murdered with no way out, he had only his children in mind when he decided to fight back against these criminals," Martinez said.

According to his family, Selwyn was ultimately shot in the knee, resulting in an injury that left him unable to walk or feel anything below the knee of his right leg.
Martinez wrote that Selwyn was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where physicians were able to stop the bleeding and even aid in restoring blood flow to the wounded leg by extracting a vein from his left leg and connecting it to his right.
"However, he was left with intense and excruciating pain and the inability to feel anything below the right knee, with a gaping hole that caused a fever because of a growing infection," his family posted on the GoFundMe page.
Due to the lasting and irreparable skin, nerve, muscle and bone damage, on Oct. 26, Selwyn had his right leg amputated.
"Selwyn is 36 years old and has the rest of his life to make a difference for himself and his children, which range in ages 16, 15, 14, 10, 9 and 8 years old, including his family, friends and all those that know him or will know him in the future," Martinez wrote.
Selwyn's family recently launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical bills, rehabilitation, future prosthetic care and daily living expenses. As of Monday, the online fundraiser has generated $2,475 from more than 30 people. The family hopes to raise $50,000.
"His life is now changed in how he will be able to function and interact in the world for years to come. We ask that you please take the time to offer your sympathies and support for him and his children on this page. He and his family will be grateful to hear your words of encouragement and support," Martinez wrote.
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office said that the investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made public.
