NJ Man Charged With Assaulting Cop Says He Was A UFC Fighter, Mets Outfielder, Security For Charlie Kirk
The man also claims to be a former Marine, among other accolades, but police have not been able to validate his claims, officials say.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Wharton man with a history of altercations with police was arrested again this week, and took the opportunity to brag about his “extensive resume,” police said.
Douglas Godfrey Jr., 41, was arrested Thursday and charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer, obstructing administration of law, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
The incident began when Wharton police came to Godfrey’s home to serve a complaint summons for a previous disorderly conduct violation. Godfrey refused to accept the summons and became "aggressive" when officers left it on his front deck, police said.

Police said Godfrey grabbed the officer by the arm and was warned that if he touched the officer again, he would be arrested. Godfrey then tried to bump the officer with his chest, resulting in his arrest, police said.
Godfrey resisted arrest, fighting and screaming as police attempted to handcuff him, authorities said. Godfrey also tried to kick the police car he was being escorted into, officials added.

Police said Godfrey was arrested last month when he exhibited similar behavior with another Wharton officer. Authorities said in both instances, he was believed to be intoxicated.
During the course of the arrest, and reportedly during previous altercations, Godfrey bragged to officers about what they call an “extensive resume.”
The 41-year-old has claimed to have a net worth of $100 million and 18 vacation homes. He also claimed to be a former centerfielder for the New York Mets, a professional mixed martial arts fighter in the UFC, a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a former high-ranking member of Charlie Kirk’s security team, police said.
To date, Wharton police have not been able to validate any of his claims.
Godfrey was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
