Morris County Man Drowns At The Jersey Shore
The man was one of two swimmers in distress that prompted water rescues that day.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man is dead after drowning in the Jersey Shore waters this weekend, the first of two incidents that prompted emergency water rescues that day, according to officials.
On Saturday, John DeVone, 54, of Whippany, was pronounced dead at Community Medical Center in Toms River after he was pulled from the water in Seaside Park, authorities said.
Officials said DeVone was spotted struggling in the water just before noon, prompting an emergency water rescue.

First responders attempted CPR on DeVone before he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, officials said.
Hours later, around 1:30 p.m., a second swimmer was spotted struggling in the water near the 13th Avenue Beach, according to authorities.

Officials said the woman, who was not identified, was able to swim back to shore by herself before rescuers reached her.
