Morris Twp. Resident Advances to Junior Olympics

She and 12 other Morris County Track Club athletes are heading to Michigan

Track and field youth athletes from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut vied at the 3-day American Athletic Union’s National Qualifiers for District 1 held at Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick from June 28-30. Twelve Morris County Track Club stars finished in the top five of their events, many receiving medals and qualifying to advance to the Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan from July 29 – August 3.

MCTC athletes qualified for numerous events:

  • 9 in the Long Jump
  • 5 in the 100 meter dash
  • 6 in the 200 meter dash
  • 3 in the 800 meter run
  • 2 in the 1500 meter run

Although many MCTC athletes qualified, not all will be heading to the Junior Olympics.

Micaela Cassidy, 8, from Morris Township placed high in her age division the Long. She beat female jumpers from the Tri-state area and won gold with a leap of 8’11”.  Her teammates also shined in the Long Jump with stellar finishes in their age divisions.  

  • Elorm Akasreku (14, 1st place) who set a state record last month at the NJ Qualifiers
  • Marcus Workman (14, 3rd place)
  • Anjali Pai (14, 1st place)
  • Tyruse Boock (12, 1st place)
  • Nana Agyemang (11, 1st place)
  • Aidan Kamp (11, 4th place)
  • RJ Workman (10, 2nd place)
  • Noah Cooper (6, 2nd place)

  • Elorm Akasreku, 14 of Landing, earned gold in the 100 meter dash and bronze in the 200 meter dash.  
  • Nana Agyemang, of Parsippany, and Aidan Kamp, of Mendham, dominated the 11-Year-Old Boy Division with 1st and 3rd place finishes in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, respectively.
  • Tyruse Boock, of New York City, took gold in the 100 meter and silver in the 200 meter dashes in the Boys 12-Year-Old Division.  
  • Avery Brown, of Chatham, won the bronze medal in the 400 meter race for the 14-Year-Old Boy Division.  
  • Colin Logsdon, of Chatham, took 5th place in the 1500 meter run in the 13-Year-Old Boys Division.  
  • Rawle “RJ” Workman, 10 of Parsippany, took 5th in the 100 meter dash
  • Connor Cooper, 10 of Hopatcong, took 5th in the 200 meter run dash

MCTC girls also qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics’ track events. 

  • Anjali Pai, 14, advanced in the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes.  
  • Corinne Renshaw, 10 of Lakeland will represent MCTC in the 800 meter run
