Morristown HS Students React to Bomb Scare, Evacuation
Classroom was evacuated while local, county agencies investigated package reported by teacher.
Security was heightened at Morristown High School on Tuesday after a bomb scare led to an evacuation.
After opening school, a teacher spotted an unattended package in her classroom which she could not identify, said the school's release. It later turned out to be a lunchbox and was deemed “harmless,” according to acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.
Freshman Jen Franco said the incident gave a bit of excitement to an otherwise mundane school day.

“I think it was a little interesting because keeping a routine is boring,” said Franco. “They didn’t really tell (us it was a bomb scare). I heard about it from some of my friends. (The school) called some of the houses, didn’t call all of them, and others found out from friends.”
She added that she “wasn’t evacuated,” and that only the students that were evacuated were those closest to the suspicious area and classroom.

Several families decided to keep their students home from school.
“I wasn’t in school,” said sophomore Ivan Maldonado. “I think it was more the parents who were really worried about it. I’m kind of (nervous about going back to school on Wednesday). What if there are people who are serious about it (the bomb threat), but I think my mom is more nervous about it than I am.”
