Morristown Man Robbed Duo of Drugs, Money Using Fake Gun: Police

Parsippany police said they arrested Darryl Simmons, 37, who had heroin, a replica handgun and a knife in his possession.

MORRISTOWN, N.J.– A Morristown man was arrested Wednesday after using a fake gun to steal drugs and money from an alleged deal he set up, NJ.com reported.

Darryl Simmons, 37, set up the deal at the Ramada Inn on Route 46 and threatened the two people who showed up with what appeared to be a silver revolver, according to NJ.com.

Simmons fled in a blue 1995 BMW 325 driven by Shana Aviles, 31, also of Morristown, to the Days Inn in Parsippany, township Chief Paul Philipps said.

Parsippany police set up a perimeter around the location and found Simmons in a nearby lot on Pumphouse Road where he was arrested, Philipps said.

Police found a replica handgun, heroin, a knife and a hypodermic needle on Simmons, Philipps said.

These items were discarded by Simmons as he fled police, Philipps added.

According to the chief, Simmons was transported to Saint Clares Hospital-Denville for a cut he received while resisting arrest.

Parsippany police charged Simmons with weapons possession, resisting arrest, burglary to an automobile, theft from a motor vehicle, and heroin possession, Philipps said.

According to NJ.com, Rockaway Borough police charged him with armed robbery, terroristic threats, theft of CDS, and unlawful possession of an imitation firearm for an unlawful purpose.

Simmons was remanded to Morris County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail – $75,000 out of Rockaway Borough, according to NJ.com and $50,000 out of Parsippany, Philipps said.
