North Jersey Man Who Robbed Deli Stole A Car Too, Cops Say
A man arrested for robbing a deli was later found to have stolen a car and a laptop as well, police said.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A North Jersey man who stole from a Morris County deli now faces additional charges after he was found to have also stolen a car and laptop, police said.
On Nov. 11, around 3 p.m., police responded to Rt. 206 Bagels and Deli in the Flanders section of Mt. Olive on reports of theft.
Investigators found out that a man, later identified as Mohammad N. Salem, 48, from North Bergen, had stolen around $21 out of a tip jar before running out of the deli, police said.

Salem was later arrested at the Flanders Wawa on Netcong Road. He was found to have arrest warrants out of Passaic County and was handed over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.
Later that day, around 11:30 p.m., police noticed an empty Hyundai Sonata running in the parking lot of the Delta Gas Station in Flanders. Officers ran the Hyundai’s registration and found it to be reported stolen out of North Bergen.

Investigators found that Salem had stolen the car, which also had a stolen MacBook laptop in it, and left it outside the gas station, police said. It’s not clear if the car was abandoned before or after the deli theft.
Salem was charged with theft of movable property for the deli incident. Regarding the Hyundai and MacBook theft, he's charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and receiving stolen property.
He is being held in the Passaic County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
