Pastry Chef To Open New Bakery Location In Morristown

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The smell of freshly baked cookies and pastries will soon waft down the streets of Morristown as Kirshenbaum Baking Co. is set to open its newest location on Schuyler Place.

What started as an internet cookie company to bring in money during the pandemic quickly developed into Kirshenbaum Baking Co., a full-service bakery with a flagship site in Westfield.

The bakery, which will be run by pastry chef Uyen Kirshenbaum and her husband Jeff, will operate in one of the retail spaces of the Schuyler Lofts complex on Schuyler Place and will serve its distinctive cookies as well as other sweet and savory goodies.

The couple announced the news in a social media post, stating that the new bakery will open in the spring of 2024.

According to the bakery's website, Kirshenbaum worked as a pastry chef in some of the top bakeries and restaurants, from Paris to Las Vegas to Los Angeles, but always dreamed of opening her own bakery.

Jeff worked on Wall Street for a decade before relocating to California to pursue his passion for the hospitality sector. According to the website, with his finance and operating knowledge and Kirshenbaum's culinary background, they made a solid team for starting a business.

When the two were jobless during the pandemic, Kirshenbaum said they decided to create a little business at home, selling cookies online and mailing them to relatives and friends around the country.

Their first shop in Westfield opened its doors in September 2022.

At their current location, the bakery sells everything from cookies, homemade breads and artisanal sandwiches to full-sized cakes and pies by the slice.

The bakery also offers some dairy- and gluten-free cookie options. Some of the featured items include salted chocolate chip cookies, double chocolate cookies (gluten-free and dairy-free), rocky road (gluten-free and dairy-free), lemon poppy and snickerdoodle.

Jeff's cookie collection is made up of all gluten- and dairy-free options, as Jeff cannot have dairy himself. You can check out those cookies here.
