New Mayor For Morris Plains; Results For Morris Twp, Morristown

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Election results for the greater Morristown area are in, and voters selected local officials, including a mayor, town councils, and school board members.

Morristown
Vij Pawar won the race for Town of Morristown School District Board of Education over John Creamer, according to unofficial election results.

With 100% of districts reporting as of 9:30 p.m., Pawar has 2,046 votes to Creamer's 1,321 votes. The school board was the only local election in Morristown this year.
Morris Township
Voters will select two committee members and two members for the Morris School District Board of Education.

Democrats Jeff Grayzel and Mark Gyorfy are set to be elected to the township committee over Republicans Bruce Sisler and Joseph Calvanelli. The unofficial vote results, with projected winners in bold, are:
- DEM - Jeff Grayzel 5,273
- DEM - Mark Gyorfy 5,151
- REP - Bruce D. Sisler 4,251
- REP - Joseph V. Calvanelli Jr. 4,129
Sisler was an incumbent.
Ann Rhines, Alan Smith, and Linda Murphy were the three Board of Education candidates for two seats. The unofficial vote results, with projected winners in bold, are:
- Ann Rhines 4,250
- Alan L. Smith 2,798
- Linda Murphy 3,248
Morris Plains
There were contested races for Mayor, borough council, and the Borough of Morris Plains school district.
This will be the first time in 32 years that Frank Druetzler will not serve as mayor. Current Democratic council member Jason Karr ran against Republican Salvatore Cortese for the mayor's seat. According to the unofficial vote tallies, Karr has 1,317 votes and the lead over Cortese, who has 1,210 votes. Karr is projected to win.
All four council candidates are newcomers, as the current members decided not to run for reelection. Democrats Christina Genest and Jessica Prater are running against Dennis Wagner and Cathie Kelly for the two open seats. The unofficial vote results, with projected winners in bold, are:
- DEM - Christina Genest 1,184
- DEM - Jessica Prater 1,175
- REP - Dennis M. Wagner 1,326
- REP - Catherine Cathie E. Kelly 1,264
Four candidates are running for three school board seats: Lucia Galdi, Kenneth Wilbur, Diane Del Russo, and Amy Lyons. Galdi, Wilbur and Lyons are all incumbents. The unofficial vote results, with projected winners in bold, are:
- Lucia Galdi 1,031
- Kenneth J. Wilbur 890
- Diane Del Russo 1,033
- Amy Lyons 932
