MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morris County turned out to be a key one in this year’s gubernatorial race, becoming one of five that flipped blue to help Mikie Sherrill become the governor-elect, according to the Associated Press.

In 2024, a majority of Morris County voters supported Republican Donald Trump in the Presidential Election, turning the county red. This year, voters supported Democrat Sherrill to become the Garden State’s next governor.

Among the five counties that flipped this year, Morris County had the tightest margin, with Passaic County having the widest.

  • Mikie Sherrill: 110,913 votes (50.15%)
  • Jack Ciattarelli: 109,068 votes (49.32%)
  • Vic Kaplan: 590 votes (.27%)
  • Joanne Kuniansky: 348 votes (.16%)

As the numbers stand, Sherrill beat Republican Ciattarelli by 1,845 votes in Morris County. Even if Kaplan and Kuniansky voters, as well as the 230 write-in voters, supported Ciattarelli instead, Sherrill would still have a lead of 677 votes.

A total of 221,149 votes were cast from Morris County in the 2025 Gubernatorial Election. With 385,139 registered voters in the county, that’s a voter turnout of 57.89 percent.

Next, let’s break down how some towns in Morris County voted specifically:

  • Morristown: A majority of Morristown voters in most districts and wards voted for Sherrill. (Ward 1: District 1, and Ward 2: District 3, are not reporting)
  • Mendham Borough: A majority of voters in districts 1, 3, and 5 voted for Ciattarelli. Districts 2 and 4 voted for Sherrill.
  • Mendham Township: A majority of voters in districts 1, 2, and 4 voted for Ciattarelli. Districts 3 and 5 voted for Sherrill.
  • Chester Borough & Township: A majority of Chester Township and Borough voters in all districts voted for Ciattarelli.
  • Parsippany: A majority of voters in districts 6, 18, 27, 30, 31, and 37 voted for Ciattarelli. The remaining districts favored Sherrill.
  • Washington Township (Long Valley): A majority of voters in districts 7 and 11 voted for Sherrill. The remaining districts favored Ciattarelli.
