Speedwell Avenue to Get New Light Poles

Council OKs introduction of Morristown Partnership Special Improvement District budget.

Expect new light poles on Speedwell Avenue thanks to the Morristown Partnership and the town.

Jennifer Wehring, director of marketing of the Morristown Partnership, gave an update on the partnership at last week’s council meeting.

“We were awarded a Department of Community Affairs loan of about $200,000 for a streetscape improvement that we’re partnering with the town of Morristown on. (This project will) install 33 light poles on Speedwell Avenue from Flagler to Henry Street. The project should begin in September.

"We just ordered at our last board meeting a sidewalk quarter, which will go on the special improvement sweeping five days a week, five hours a day. That contract is set to begin July 1."

The council also approved the introduction of the 2013 Morristown Partnership Special Improvement District budget.

“No assessment fees are used for community events … those are all (funded) through sponsorships and participation fees,” said Wehring.

In two months, Morristown Partnership sold more than $50,000 in gift certificates.

“We just finished our spring certificate promotion. We sold over $50,000 in Morristown gift certificates since May 1. We partnered that sale with a $10 gift certificate with every $50 purchased … we sold very quickly this year and I think it’s a great teachers gift and end-of-year coaches gift. We sell it all year round and it’s valid in over 200 Morristown businesses.”

Gift certificates are available for purchase in any denomination up to $50.

They can only be purchased at the Morristown Partnership's office, located at 14 Maple Avenue, Suite 201, Morristown, NJ or by downloading the Morristown Partnership Gift Certificate Order Form from its website. For more information or a list of the participating businesses, go here:

The partnership welcomed a new team member to the Morristown Partnership, Karen Carvelli, who will be the director of development.

“She supports the Morristown Partnership in securing sponsorships for all of our community events and business initiatives,” said Wehring.

Councilwoman Rebecca Feldman added that the public should sign up for monthly emails from the partnership to stay informed about special events
