Tour Of Acorn Hall's Carriage House Construction This Week

The historic carriage house is undergoing a $150,000 renovation, and the historical society is giving tours of the progress

MORRISTOWN, NJ—The Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall will hold a tour of Phase 1 of the Carriage House construction later this week.

"The carriage house is critical to the understanding of Morristown’s pre-Civil War agrarian land use and is among the few remaining buildings from that time period in northern New Jersey," the historical society said in an announcement.

The tour, hosted by Morris County Historical Society Executive Director Amy Curry, will focus on Phase 1 of construction, in which windows and doors were removed from the carriage house, carefully restored, and returned. The tour will run on Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Curry's talk will preview the current construction taking place. After the doors and windows were reinstalled, the hayloft door and door near the horse stalls were removed and will be restored as the building's other doors and windows. The building is also undergoing roof restoration and structural stabilization, which participants will see during the tour.

Tickets start at $3. You can find more information here.
