UPDATE: Road, Rail Repairs Close Major Morris Thoroughfares

​Work is being or was completed in Boonton, Butler, Chatham, Harding, Parsippany, Randolph, Rockaway Borough and Rockaway Township.

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J.– As of last week, major Morris County rail and road projects were underway or set to begin – with roads to be closed or down to single lanes during the improvements, officials said.

The resurfacing of two Chatham roads begins this week and other projects are nearing completion, Morris County Communications and Digital Media Manager Larry Ragonese said.

The Ironia Road Bridge at the Chester/Randolph border is also being replaced.

“The freeholder board is committed to maintaining a high quality of transportation infrastructure in Morris County,’’ said Morris County Freeholder John Cesaro, the county governing board’s liaison on road and bridge issues. “We know these projects have inconvenienced drivers and cyclists, but the improvement will last for a very long time.’’

Here is a current look at county road, rail and bridge projects in Boonton Township, Butler, Chatham Township, Chester Township, Denville, Harding, Parsippany, Randolph, Rockaway Borough, and Rockaway Township:

SHUNPIKE ROAD, Chatham Twp.: Konkus Corp. will be resurfacing 1.3 miles of Shunpike Road from Noe to Green Village roads. Work hours are from 7 a.m.– 5 p.m.

GREEN VILLAGE ROAD, Chatham Twp.: See above.

IRONIA ROAD, Randolph and Chester Twp.: The Ironia Road bridge at the Randolph and Chester Township border will be replaced. There is a three-mile detour at South and Dover-Chester roads.

HIBERNIA AVENUE, Rockaways/Denville: The road will be closed from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. while a new rail crossing is installed between Oak Street and Vanderhoof Avenue.

SUSSEX TURNPIKE, Randolph: The road is being paved with line striping to follow.

ROUTE 10, Roxbury: Rail crossing work was complete, but clean up and electrical work are still undereway.

SOUTH BEVERWYCK ROAD, Parsippany: The work is completed.

BOONTON AVENUE, Butler: Paving of a nearly one-mile segment from Route 23 to Kiel Avenue is done. Striping underway.

BOONTON AVENUE, Boonton Twp.: Paving is done on a nearly one-mile segment from Sheep Hill Road to the Montville border. Line striping is underway.

OGDEN AVENUE, Rockaway Borough: Rail crossing upgrade work will begin at 6 a.m. on Monday. Ogden Avenue will then be closed permanently to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between Jackson and Drake avenues.
