Winter Coat Giveaway Planned For Families In Need In Morristown

With cold weather on the way, Market Street Mission will be having its annual coat distribution this Saturday.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — With cold weather on the way, Market Street Mission will hold its annual coat distribution on Saturday.

New jackets and coats in various sizes—and for all family members—will be distributed for free to those in need.

For the past 33 years, the Market Street Mission has provided free coats, hats, gloves and scarves to hundreds of Morristown residents.

This year, the giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the Morristown Green.

“The annual MSM Coat Giveaway is a time for community members, churches, corporations, and individuals to get together and collect new and lightly used coats and winter accessories for the community. Volunteers are eager to assist guests in finding just the right fit and color coat they are looking for. We have over 80 wonderful volunteers that come just to make sure that each guest we serve feels cared for,” said Debbie McKenna, Market Street Mission’s Events and Volunteer Manager.

Donations of new outerwear will be accepted at the Market Street Mission Thrift Store, located at 25 George Street, Monday through Saturday, except Wednesdays, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The organization will also be hosting a coat giveaway at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, their Asbury Park location, on Nov. 18.

Market Street Mission, is a non-profit organization that ministers to the hungry, homeless and those struggling with addiction in northern New Jersey.

"We aim to provide an addiction recovery plan that will guide men in making a 'Life Change' by giving people the tools they need to find long-term sobriety," Market Street Mission said.

The Market Street Mission, founded in 1889, is an experienced organization with a proven method of combating alcoholism, substance abuse, hunger and homelessness in northern and central New Jersey.
