UN Adviser to Speak at Rutgers and Upgrades Coming to Ironbound Park
What's going on in Newark Thursday, Oct. 10

On Thursday, Oct. 10, Rutgers-Newark will be offering a free program, open to the public, entitled, “Genocide Prevention and Global Justice.” During the program, Adama Dieng, a special adviser to the United Nations, will discuss genocide prevention, looking at 20th century examples of the practice, including in Armenia, Cambodia, Darfur as well as the Holocaust during World War II.
The program will be held at the Dana Room of the John Cotton Dana Library, 185 University Ave., from 6 to 8 pm.
Also Thursday, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo will be announcing a major improvement to Independence Park in the Ironbound. The synthetic grass field will be replaced at the facility, a popular spot for soccer programs including the Ironbound Soccer Club.
