Cooling Centers Now Open in Newark

Heat wave continues to bake the area

The Essex County Office of Emergency Management and the city of Newark have announced the opening of cooling shelters throughout the city. The heat wave affecting the area for the last several days is expected to persist through the weekend, with high temperatures in the mid-90s daily.

The cooling center locations and times are:

Bethany Senior Center 275 W Market St., M-F, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Newark Dept. of Child and Family Well Being, 110 William St.,  M-F, 8:30am to 4:30 pm

Ironbound Senior Center, 226 Rome St., M-F, 9 am to 5 pm
