Free Screening of Film Exploring Hunger in America Thursday
'Place at the Table" to be screened Thursday at CityPlex 12

The YMCA of Newark, along with Let’s Move! Newark and the New Jersey Partnership for Healthy Kids-Newark, is hosting a screening of the film “A Place at the Table,” a documentary exploring hunger and youth obesity in America.
The free screening will be held at CityPlex 12, 360 Springfield Ave., at 6 pm Sept. 19. Admission is free, with the first 100 attendees also receiving a healthy snack pack.
The screening is part of Participant Media’s “Take Your Place” Social Action Campaign, which uses the acclaimed documentary to inspire community conversations about hunger and obesity and get people involved in efforts to address this systemic problem. With support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a total of 25 communities across the country will be hosting such events throughout the summer and fall.

“This screening is a great opportunity to bring the community together to discuss what’s behind the food crisis and what can be done to address it,” said Michael C. Bright, President & CEO of the YMCA of Newark & Vicinity. “Following the film screening, we hope to inform residents as to how they can support building stronger food systems in Newark so residents can have access to affordable and quality food.”
