It's National Night Out Tuesday!

What's going on in Newark Tuesday, Aug. 6.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the Newark Police Department will observe National Night Out, a community-outreach event designed to foster links between law enforcement and the community it serves, and to strengthen anti-crime efforts by getting citizens more engaged with their police.

The annual event, celebrated by communities across the country since 1984, is also a chance for Newarkers to meet with their local cops -- and to have a lot of family fun, too.

Department personnel will be at Kasberger Field, 3rd Avenue and N. 5th Street, from 2 to 10 pm, where there will also be bouncy rides for the kids, food vendors, a medical screening station courtesy of UMDNJ as well as other attractions.

In addition, the police and fire departments will go head-to-head for a softball game beginning at 4 pm.

As we reported yesterday, several churches are also taking part, hosting NNO events throughout the city. For a complete list, click here.
