Newark Man Charged with 'Cold-Case' Murder

Victim was found beaten and strangled at her Plainfield home in 2005.

A 49-year-old city man has been charged with killing a woman in Plainfield nearly a decade ago, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.

Dorian Gillon, a former Plainfield resident, was being held on $1 million bail, the prosecutor’s office said.

The body of Williametta Moore, 39, was found inside her Plainfield home Dec. 15, 2005. She had been beaten and strangled, officials said. Gillon was living nearby at the time of Moore’s death.

Investigators linked Gillon to the crime with DNA evidence that had previously been collected, the prosecutor’s office said. Gillon was arrested Monday in Elizabeth.

“This case is a good example of the value of perseverance in investigating crimes that initially go unsolved,” Acting Prosecutor Grace Park said. “The public should know that we are committed to continuing to examine cold cases in an effort to bring crime victims and their families justice.”
