Newark Students Get New Backpacks Via NJ Black Alliance Donation

Several community organizations and agencies helped the Black Alliance for Educational Options to provide book bags to students.

NEWARK, NJ – The New Jersey Chapter of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) has partnered with the City of Newark, local elected officials, churches, and non-profit organizations to provide more than 3,500 book bags to Newark students as they begin the 2016 – 2017 school year. BAEO, a national non-profit education advocacy organization aims to increase access to high-quality educational options for African American children by supporting transformational education reform initiatives and parental choice policies.

“Part of our mission is to empower the families that we serve,” says Lavar Young, Newark City Director of BAEO. “Through partnerships with the Mayor’s Office and numerous organizations throughout the City, our goal is to completely distribute 6,000 bookbags before the end of the September.”

Partnerships include; The City of Newark, Senator Theresa Ruiz, Councilman Anibal Ramos, the Newark Charters Shool Fund, 211 Community Impact, PACTION, Marion P. Thomas Charter Schools, Paulo Freire Charter School, YMCA, Westside High School, UCC, Dr. Horton School, Elmwood United Presbyterian Church, Vailsburg Assembly of God, A-1 Cuts Barbershop, IYO, Foundation Academy and more.
