Newark Youth Leaders Present Projects For Change in Community

Stand and Deliver, a program equipping inner-city youth with effective communication and community engagement skills, recognized team and individual efforts at its 15th Annual Night of Eloquence.

Youth all around Newark dedicated many thoughtful hours into the creation of realistic community projects that could create positive change around them.

Stand & Deliver: Communication Tools for Tomorrow’s Leaders honored both individual and team efforts at its 15th Annual Night of Eloquence that took place May 19.

Stand and Deliver is curriculum that better furnishes inner-city youth's with communication skills, provides them with resources to become active in the community and competitive for future employment.

The youth involved in the program learn these skills through a series of workshops and a closing project in which they apply their knowledge to their communities.

The evening was also dedicated to honoring two people who have made a difference in educating these budding leaders. Stand and Deliver presented Tracye McDaniel, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, Inc. and Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey with the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award.

This year marks 15 years of community engagement for the project.

“Providing our young adults with the tools they need to communicate and lead with passion and integrity prepares them for the future and gives them a considerable edge to succeed in whatever path they choose. I take great pride in knowing, that over the past fifteen years, Stand & Deliver has taught thousands of young men and women how to reach their full potential," said founder Steve Adubato.
