Prudential Center Among World's Top 10 in Sales

Newark venue hosts professional hockey, major concert tours.

Billboard magazine has announced that the Prudential Center ranks 8th in the world and fourth in the United States in terms of gross sales for concerts and other events at the downtown entertainment venue.

The ranking covers  the period from Nov. 1, 2012 to May 31, when the venue hosted acts including Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. The Rock is also home to the New Jersey Devils hockey team.

The Prudential Center rose from 15th-place in the rankings from the same period a year ago.

“We are pleased with our strong showing.  It proves the point we have said right from our opening, by building a world-class arena we would attract world-class talent,” Jeff Vanderbeek, the chairman of Devils Arena Entertainment, said in a statement.  “This further solidifies our position as a must play venue.”

Other facilities in the region scored even higher in the rankings, with Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center ranked second and Madison Square Garden taking fourth place.
