Remember When Music Came on Vinyl?

What's going on around town Friday, Aug. 2.

Unable to quell that jones for fresh fruits and veggies because of Thursday’s awful weather? Not to worry -- there’s another farmer’s market Friday, Aug. 2., at 343 Meeker Ave. from 11 am to 6 pm. The market is sponsored by SWAG (the South Ward Agri-Garden).

Forget MP3 files and iPods -- an event Friday is for music aficionados who like their tunes delivered in an old-school format noted for its rich, resonant acoustics and whose scratches and screeches form the aural background for genres like house, hip-hop and rap. A local hair salon, Center Stage Cuts, is hosting the Open Crates Vinyl Collective Friday for enthusiasts of the good old-fashioned vinyl record. Collectors from throughout the New York-New Jersey area are expected at the event, touted as an opportunity to “build community through local experiences centered around the culture of vinyl collecting, trading, and music history.”

The event will be held at Center Stage Cuts, 402 Broad St., beginning at 6 pm. Admission is free.
