Sheriff's Officers Arrest Three for Weapons, Drugs

Two brothers taken into custody.

Essex County Sheriff’s officers arrested three Newark residents on narcotics and weapons charges, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said.

Sheriff’s officers arrested brothers Rajohn, 33, and 41`-year-old John Eley after executing an arrest warrant for Rajohn Eley at 44 Homestead Park. He was wanted on a narcotics possession charge.

Fontoura said John Eley was in the home when sheriff’s officers arrived, in a front bedroom where Eley allegedly had left a loaded, stolen Smith and Wesson handgun and a baggie containing 35 grams of cocaine.

Detectives reportedly observed 18-year-old Jazir Gordon on a bicycle loitering in the known high drug trafficking area.  Detectives witnessed Gordon conduct a drug deal with a passerby, Fontoura said.

When officers approached, Gordon reportedly pulled a defaced, loaded handgun from his waistband and dropped it into a vacant lot, then fled, Fontoura said. When Gordon was caught after a short foot chase, detectives searched Gordon and allegedly found four envelopes of heroin.

Gordon was also charged with numerous drug and weapons violations.
