St. Michael's Offers Yoga Classes

Courses part of holistic wellness effort.

Patients of the Metabolic and Bariatric Center at Saint Michael’s Medical Center will soon be receiving therapeutic yoga classes available at the hospital. Dr. Beth Haessig, psychologist in the center and certified Kripalu yoga teacher received a grant from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health for patients to receive yoga sessions as part of Kripalu's Teaching for Diversity Program.

The introduction of these yoga classes is part of the center’s holistic and comprehensive approach to weight loss.

“Studies have shown that regular yoga practice is associated with more mindful eating, which means one is more aware of when they’re hungry and what they’re hungry for,” says Haessig. “Yoga can also help regulate stress, and reduce anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, so it focuses on the whole person.”
