Woman Killed in Newark Tuesday

A 24-year-old city woman was shot and killed Tuesday night, the latest in a series of homicides in Newark over the last several days, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Newark police announced.

Dejaa Edwards was shot around 9:30 pm in a playground along the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital about a half-hour later, officials said.

A 30-year-old man was also shot but survived. He was listed in stable condition at University Tuesday night.
