Youth Killed, Booker Sued by Senate Challenger

The week's top stories on Newark Patch.

Republican Senate candidate Steve Lonegan came to Newark this week to announce a lawsuit he filed against his Democratic challenger, Mayor Cory Booker, seeking Booker’s spending records dating back several years.

A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed, the tenth person killed in the city in as many days. Officials said they would continue a program of stepped-up enforcement originally instituted for the summer months only. The youth was a member of a street gang and a large quantity of narcotics was found in his home after his death, NJ.com reported.

Two people were charged in two separate murders, of an Essex County Correctional Facility inmate and a woman who was stabbed as she walked along a city street.
