Polls Open for Primary to Determine November Ballot Positions
Municipal races are quiet but it's a full ballot for Freeholder, State Senate and Congressional positioning
Throughout the day, voters in New Milford will take to their respective polling locations to determine just whose names will appear on the November ballot in the race for Bergen County Freeholder, the US Senate (NJ) and New Jersey Congregessional District 5 and 9. There is really no primary race in the municipal election.
The hotly contested race is that between U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman (D-8) and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-9) who are facing off against each other due to the redistricting of the 9th Congressional District.
Polls will be open from 6am to 8pm.

Polling Locations for New Milford voters are as follows:
- District 1 and 2: Gibbs School Media Center
- District 3: New Milford VFW
- District 4: DEO Middle School
- District 5: New Milford VFW
- District 6 and 7: Berkley School Media Center
- District 8 and 9: New Milford Library Meeting Room
Freeholder Candidates

Republican Freeholder candidates are: former River Edge Mayor Margaret "Peg" Watkins, incumbent Robert Hermansen of Mahwah, Suzanne McLoughlin of Dumont, Ciro M. Disclafani of Garfield and Frank Khoury of Edgewater.
Representing the Democratic line are Tracy Zur of Franklin Lakes, Steve Tanelli of North Arlington, Denise Zaft of Fair Lawn and Stephon Bouldin of Elmwood Park.
State Senate
Incumbent Bob Menedez will have to wait till Wednesday to see who his challenger will be. Republican candidates include David Douglas Brown, current state senator Joe Kyrillos, Bader Qarmout and Joe Rullo.
Ken Wolski (Green), Ken Del Vecchio (Libertarian), Greg Pason (Socialist), Jeff Boss (Independent), Larry Donahue (Independent) and Jonathan Maher (Independent) will also be on the ballot.
US Congress
Incumbent Scott Garret (District 5) will have to defeat Michael Cino and Bonnie Somer to run for reelection in November. The Democrats have offered up Jason Castle, Teaneck Councilman Adam Gussen, and Diane Sare as possible challengers while the Reform Party puts forth Mark Quick.
On the Democratic ticket, Rep. Steve Rothman will attempt to take the seat of District 9 incumbent Rep. Bill Pascrell.
