Relay for Life Kicks Off Friday at Gibbs Elementary School

Second annual Relay for Life still looking for participants for Friday's event.

The second annual New Milford/River Dell Relay for Life starts Friday at 5pm at and runs through the night ending Saturday morning at 6am. This all night event raises much needed funds for the fight against cancer.

 was a huge success surpassing its $50,000 goal and raising over $98,000 for the American Cancer Society. More than 900 people came out to support the event.

There are currently 139 participants and 20 teams for this year's event, but there is still time to join. So far, $8612 has been raised.

Relay for Life usually begins with a Survivors Lap, where cancer survivors take a lap to celebrate their victory against cancer. There are also luminaria, bagged candles with names inscribed, that honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer. The walking continues until the closing ceremony.
