The Week Ahead In New Milford

Mayor and Council to discuss authorizing rezoning study of United Water property, New Milford Redevelopment Associates to dominate Thursday's Zoning Board meeting.

There will be a work session of the Mayor and Council Monday at 7 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at .

On the agenda is a resolution to authorize Phillips Preiss and Grygiel, LLC (appointed Zoning Board planner in the United Water property hearings) to proceed with a rezoning study of the United Water property. 

The United Water property is currently zoned Residential A--single family homes. The borough's previous planner, Dennis Kirwan LLC, prepared a rezoning study of the property that was presented to the Mayor and Council during its June 27, 2011 meeting.

This  recommended that the site be zoned commercial, but with a special ordinance that would put specific parameters on its future use.  

During that June meeting, the Mayor and Council had unanimously agreed to take up the matter at their September 12, 2011 work session and vote on whether or not to move forward with drafting an ordinance that would rezone the United Water property.

However, August brought Hurricane Irene, followed by Tropical Storm Lee and the October snow storm--serious weather events that diverted attention from rezoning to emergency management.

There is no Planning Board Meeting Tuesday. It has been rescheduled for the following week--Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a Zoning Board meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber of borough hall. The meeting will be entirely devoted to New Milford Redevelopment Associates in continuation of the hearings on the development of the United Water Property.
