The 44th annual Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament, sponsored by the Ocean City Fishing Club and the city’s Department of Recreation, takes place at beaches throughout Ocean City on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The event is open to anybody, and fegistration starts at 5:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Intermediate School at 18th Street and Bay Avenue, where contestants randomly pick their beach locations.
Action in the surf begins promptly at 6:30 am. When the tournament ends at 12:30 pm, everyone returns to the school for a light lunch, the chance to win door prizes donated by area merchants, and an awards ceremony for most and biggest fish. The contest is open to six-member teams and individuals for a charge of $50 and $10, respectively.
