Great Surf Short-Lived as Thursday Dawns Calm
The waves, wind and weather at dawn in Ocean City. A survival guide for surfers, runners, homeowners and all those who can't wait for another summer.
For a brief moment on Wednesday afternoon it looked like spring: School was out for the afternoon, kids were carrying their boards as they rode bikes down the Boardwalk and the top breaks in town were filled with surfers.
They were taking advantage of unseasonably warm weather and uncharacteristically good waves.
But alas, all good things come to an end.

On Thursday morning, most of the swell is gone. The temperatures are back below freezing. And we're waiting for the arrival of yet another storm ... this one due for Saturday.
Anybody tired of winter yet? We have 117 days until Memorial Day and the unofficial start of another summer.

Surf:Â Get out early to take advantage of the leftovers from yesterday's swell. Offshore winds knocked down most of it overnight, but there are some clean longboard lines still to be found on Thursday morning. Looks like a storm forecast for Saturday will bring a pretty big sea breeze, so there's a chance for more this weekend when things clean up.
Boardwalk: It looks as if it will be sunny, cold and windy Thursday and Friday. But that sounds like the better of the options, considering more rain and snow are forecast for Saturday. Winds are out of the northwest, so the trip south to 23rd Street on the Boardwalk is the easier leg.
Homes:Â No worries today.
