Loaded Gun Found With Man During South Jersey Road Rage Incident

The man, accused of following a victim and his family, was found with a loaded handgun fitted with a high-capacity magazine, police said.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - A Philadelphia man was arrested and charged Saturday after a road rage incident ended in the discovery of a loaded gun inside his vehicle, police said.

Eric Carmichael, 60, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a high-capacity magazine, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Atlantic City police said in a statement.

At around 12:42 p.m. Saturday, police received a report of an armed man in a white Toyota Tacoma following another man and his family. The victim, who drove his vehicle to the public safety building to report the incident, stated he was followed by the suspect throughout Atlantic City, and that the accused “brandished a handgun in a threatening manner,” police said.

The victim was able to identify the suspect vehicle stopped at a red light at the intersection of California and Atlantic Avenues, and a motor vehicle stop immediately followed. Carmichael was found with a loaded handgun fitted with a high-capacity magazine inside his vehicle and was taken into custody, police said.

Carmichael was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
