Ocean City Pops Opens Season with Debby Boone

The orchestra will perform a series of concerts in Ocean City for its 84th summer.

The Ocean City Pops, under the direction of William Scheible, announces the opening of its 84th summer season at the  with a concert featuring popular entertainer and Grammy Award winner Debby Boone at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

Boone earned instant fame when her first single, “You Light Up My Life,” became an overnight hit. The tune claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts for 10 straight weeks and sold more than four million copies.

“You Light Up My Life” ranks No. 7 in Billboard Magazine’s The Hot 100’s All-Time Top-Charting Songs of the last five decades. She received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of the Year and has since won two additional Grammy Awards and seven Grammy nominations.

In addition to her career as a recording artist, Boone’s starring roles on Broadway include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, the role of Maria in Lincoln Center’s 30th anniversary production of The Sound of Music and as Rizzo in Grease.  Debby toured nationally in Meet Me in St. Louis, and performed the role of Anna in the 50th anniversary staging of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s, The King and I at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Center in California.

Tickets for all Ocean City Pops shows are now available through the Ocean City Music Pier online box office. The Music Pier's walk-up box office also is now open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are also available on the second Floor of City Hall, Room 214, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm.
