Shops and Streets Mostly Quiet as Storm Intensifies
Storm's arrival on a holiday weekend allows residents to minimize travel.
The Superfresh market seemed to be the hub of activity in Ocean City on Sunday, as a small handful of shoppers picked up some supplies while the roads were still passable.
A block away on Asbury Avenue, Yianni's Cafe did a steady business among locals stopping in for a Sunday breakfast. But the cafe's neighbors on Asbury Avenue were mostly quiet.
Down the street, Colin Devine and Andrea Rubin were opening up one of the two 7th Street Surf Shop locations. Devine said the day after Christmas is typically one for returns, exchanges and purchases with gift certificates. He didn't anticipate the weather ruining a banner day for new sales.

The city-owned Ocean City Aquatics and Fitness Center closed its doors about 1 p.m. Sunday as snow accumulations continued to increase.
Police closed the Route 52 causeway about noon, but reported no major accidents. It will likely remain closed until Monday, according to the city.

The city also warned residents in flood-prone areas to move their cars to higher ground, particularly during high tide, which falls again near midnight tonight on the bay side of the island.
