Update From Ocean City Community Association

Report from the association's June 16 membership meeting

Nearly 70 people were in attendance at the Ocean City Community Association’s annual membership meeting on Saturday morning, held in the Stainton Senior Citizen Center.  Miss Ocean City, Brenna Carnuccio opened the proceedings by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Police Chief Chad Callahan accepted a Certificate of Appreciation from OCCA President Curt Gronert for the police department’s efforts during recent months to enforce city ordinance of "No Dogs on the Boardwalk."  Certificates of appreciation were also given to retiring Fourth Ward Councilman Roy Wagner, for his positive response to the OCCA’s concerns regarding the need for an inspection and replacement of the city’s tide flex valves, and to retiring Recording Secretary Teresa Coggshall and retiring Membership/Correspondence Secretary Martin Mozzo. 

Recipients of OCCA’s Senior Scholarship/Civic Awards, Hanna Lavin and MacKenzie McGuckin, were introduced.

Newly elected city councilmen, Mike DeVlieger, Antwan McClellan, Tony Wilson, and Pete Guinosso briefly introduced themselves and listened to a few questions and concerns from the audience.

The meeting culminated with Mayor Jay Gillian giving an update on many of the issues presently being addressed by the city’s administration.  Gillian was presented with a certificate noting OCCA’s appreciation of the capital projects status and road evaluation list being posted on the city’s website.

The Association elected its officers for the 2012-13 term:  Gronert, Fred Marcel, Dale Nicholas, Bob Dubil, Gerry Daney, John Van Stone, Ray Snyder, and Jim Tweed.  Directors:  Coggshall, Bob Barr and Marc Schuster were also introduced. 

Gronert thanked the members for attending and emphasized the need for more individuals to assume leadership roles in OCCA’s mission to protect and promote the best interests of the property owners and residents of the City of Ocean City.
